Nick Heidfeld signs up to be Mercedes GP reserve driver

Nick Heidfeld packs his bag for Mercedes GP
The former BMW Sauber driver Nick Heidfeld has become Mercedes GP reserve driver.
The German has given up looking for a 2010 Formula One race seat.
Nick Heidfeld was quoted, “I am very pleased to be joining the Mercedes team. Whilst I would of course have preferred a seat as an active driver, I am really proud to be part of the new Silver Arrows team. I have seen how committed everyone at the team is and I feel the same. I will be doing my very best to support Michael and Nico this year.”
It was a promising future few weeks back when Heidfeld was considered to drive for Mercedes GP alongside fellow German Nico Rosberg, but Michael Schumacher came into the picture, and Heidfeld was bumped out of the drivers seat contention.
After that it was reported Sauber and Renault wanted him but both didn’t work out, and the 32-year-old was confirmed as the test and reserve driver for Mercedes February 4th finally.
Well at least Mercedes has an excellent reserve driver should the aging Schumacher succumb to his old neck injury.
