Google ordered to pay $500,000 to Rubens Barrichello for online libel

Google social network site, Orkut, it seems have been hosting fake online profiles of Rubens Barrichello.
There are some 300 fake profiles under Barrichello’s name on Orkut.
That’s plenty eh! Well that finding didn’t quite make Rubens Barrichello too happy about it.
The case was lodged in Jul 2006 under the reason of false web profiles and online libel.
And with that a court in Sao Paulo has ordered the Internet giant Google to pay $500,000 dollars in damages.
The court amount could increase to $700,000, and Google run the risk of a daily fine of $590 unless all the profile pages were removed.
Orkut has a popular following in Brazil, Rubens’s home country.
Google has not commented on the judgment as of currently.
