Formula One in 2010 has possible five new constructor entries
Oooh looks like we’ll have an array of potential new teams joining Formula One next season.
We have Lola, Litespeed which is currently in Formula 3, Prodrive, USF1 and iSport, who are all interested to join F1.
As for GP2 team iSport International, they’re all set for F1 as they’re now in discussion with potential sponsors and investors.
Of course all teams have up to May 29th to sign-up and such teams are required to cough-up £40 million to boot.
The new teams participation of course hinges on today’s Formula One Team’s Association (FOTA) meeting with the current F1 constructor teams, as Ferrari, Renault, Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Toyota are opposed with the proposed $60 million budget cap.
Let’s just hope there’s an amicable solution for all, as I do really want to see more teams and drivers on the grid.
iSport team principle Paul Jackson was quoted, strike a chord with me as he shared my exact sentiments, “2010 is a rare chance for any new team entering, as new entries on the grid don’t come along too often. People in F1 have very short memories and, with the exception of Ferrari, no team is going to be greatly missed as people go to watch the drivers. You only have to look at Brawn this year and the huge fan base they have already built up to see how quickly things change and how quickly things can be forgotten.”
Indeed I do watch and support F1 mainly because of the drivers and in particular iSport is lining up to sign up the talented young Bruno Senna; nephew of late three-time Formula One world champion Ayrton Senna.
Let’s hope that happens eh.
