When Red Bull’s Mar Webber F1 car stalled at Turn 13 during the Singapore Grand Prix, the Formula One team blamed a passing train which in located underground to send static and stalled the car

It was said it was electrical surged that was the main cause of the mechanical failure stall, as Mark Webber selected two gears simultaneously at Turn 13.

Webber was in second place during the race then and on his 28th lap

Sebastien Bourdais of Toro Rosso also suffered the same stall at the same turn and location during Practice Session.

Could it be just coincidence? Well SMRT who runs Singapore local trains responded

SMRT Press Statement

“There is no MRT track beneath Turn 13 (junction between Anderson Bridge and Esplanade Drive). The nearest MRT tunnel (north-bound from Raffles Place MRT Station to City Hall MRT Station) is about 200m away, with a depth of about 10m. In addition, train wheels and running rails are made of metal and therefore do not generate static electricity charges during train operations”

Hmm both F1 and SMRT parties have their points but looks like we have to wait for next season of F1 if another stall does happen on the same place

Hi my name is Sha. I run this Formula One fansite blog. This is not the official Singapore GP website, their link is here. My first real memories of watching TV, when I was young was recalling vivid images of my sporting heroes like Ayrton Senna. With the Singapore GP debuting in my country, I decided to setup a fun blog on F1
